How I Wasn’t Being the Typical Tourist Hopping from Lima to Cusco
Peru had always been on my list of countries to visit but it seemed daunting when it first crossed my mind. I was still living in Manila which was basically on the other side of the world and I wasn’t sure how I would be able to get there.
Fast forward to August 2021, I was living in Costa Rica, fully vaccinated and travel requirements in Peru were beginning to loosen up. I began to revisit bookmarked sites and asked my Peruvian friends for recommendations in order to prepare for my trip. In addition to all of that, I stumbled across Peru Hop and this one made the difference.
There was so many things I wanted to do and visit in Peru but the country is massive and I wanted to make most of the time I had there. I wanted my experience to be as immersive as possible, convenient but also affordable and Peru Hop did that for me.
How it works:
Peru Hop is mainly a hop on hop off bus service within Peru. Based on the routes they have available, you get to choose how many days you want to stay in one place before moving on to the next one. Below was the itinerary we received from them based on the dates and places we wanted to visit.
They also partner up with travel agencies and hotels in each destination and help you with your bookings. They had complementary tours provided in some of the destinations and we also got discounts with the hotels we booked through them!
Why did I choose Peru Hop?
Flying from Lima to Cusco is the usual route as it is quicker and more convenient. And taking the public bus service can be intimidating if you are not familiar with how it works and if you don’t speak Spanish. Although I speak Spanish, taking the bus would be hard to figure out and takes a lot of effort if you’re only visiting for a limited period of time. And Peru Hop basically resolved that issue for me.
If you are not the typical tourist, Peru has so much more to offer and I was able to discover that through this bus route. I saw interesting terrains and landscapes and interacted with other like-minded people (both local and tourists) whom we met in the bus and on the tours – all of which I would miss had I taken the flight instead.
If you are planning to visit Peru, I highly recommend you visit their website and see if the services they offer are for you too. Taking the bus may not be as comfortable as taking the plane, but learning is supposed to feel uncomfortable.
